Swirl Doily

Swirl Doily

All over the net at the moment is a doily like this one. I decided to create MY OWN VERSION.

I DID NOT .......... I REPEAT ........... I DID NOT, COPY THE FRACTAL DOILY PATTERN ON RAVELRY!!

Measures 23" X 13" at the widest points, approx.  (Straight across, not on the slant)

I used a 2mm steel hook and DMC Tradition Plus thread in White (NEARLY ALL of a 100g ball)

Stitches Used:
Ch    Chain
Dc    Double Crochet
Sl St  Slip Stitch

Ch 12 & sl st into beginning ch to form a ring. Make sure the ch aren't twisted.

Ch 3, dc 34 in ring & sl st into top of beginning ch 3.

Ch 4, (dc, in next st, ch 1) around, sl st to 3rd ch.

Ch 5, (dc, in next st, ch 2) around, sl st to 3rd ch .

Ch 5, (dc, in next st, ch 2) around, sl st to 3rd ch.

Ch 6, (dc, in next st, ch 3) around, sl st to 3rd ch.

Ch 5, (dc, in next st, ch 2) around, sl st to 3rd ch.

Ch3, dc in same st, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, ch 2) around, sl st to top of ch 3.

Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next st, ch 2) around, sl st to top of ch 3.
Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2, (dc 3, ch 2) around, sl st to top of ch 3.

Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2) around, sl st to top of ch 3.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (dc 4, ch 2) around, sl st to top of ch 3.

Sl st in first four sts and in first ch 2 sp, Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2) repeat 15 times. Turn.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (dc 5, ch 2) around. Ch 1, turn.

Sl st in first five sts and in first ch 2 sp, Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 4 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, ch 2) repeat 14 times. Turn.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (dc 6, ch 2) around.  Ch 1, turn.

Continue in pattern, working 1 less section & 1 less repeat each time, until you have 1 section remaining.  Work this section & Fasten Off.

Now work other side of doily.

With right side showing, skip next the 4dc & ch 2 section.

Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2) repeat 14 times. Turn.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (dc 5, ch 2) around.  Ch 1, turn.

Sl st in first five sts and in first ch 2 sp, Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 4 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, ch 2) repeat 13 times. Turn.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (dc 6, ch 2) around.  Ch 1, turn.

Continue in pattern, working 1 less section & 1 less repeat each time, until you have 1 section remaining.  Work this section & Fasten Off.

how big is it supposed to be? my mind is going off in a tangent about using bigger yarn, linking them together on side for either a scarf or shawl wow! this pattern is so cool and unique!

So I got to the row that says repeat 15 times and at the end it says to slip stitch to the chain 3 but I am nowhere near the chain three. Am I supposed to slip stitch around to the chain 3?

I'm at the same place as Retta. Could you please help?

I am also at the same spot-where it says sl st to ch 3-What do we do? Love the pattern.

Retta and Unknown, here is what I did. at the repeat 15 times, I just turned and went to the next row of instructions and skipped the sl st to top of ch 3. I think those are all typos from that point on. So the next 2 rows of instructions you just work to the end of the row and turn. I think if I did this again I would leave out rows 6 and 7 where there is a ch3 between dc groups then she goes back to ch 2. I just think it would look better personally. Also the ch 3 doesn't lay right in my opinion. Hope this helps!

I have searched all over for a pattern close to the fractual doily pattern. Glad that you sat down and wrote your own. Thanks.

So sorry for the delay in replying. The pattern has now been fixed. Thanks so much for bringing my mistakes to my attention. I haven't been on here for a while, as I have some manage to tear my rotator cuff in BOTH SHOULDERS (at different times!!). I have had two operations on the right shoulder, and am on a waiting list for my left shoulder VERY FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST!!

Hello. I'm Penelope from Greece. Love the pattern btw, lol. I want to make smaller sizes from my side coffee tables. Do I stop at the size I want in this pattern or there are different measurements?

I'm a little confused. When starting row 12, it says slip stitch in next 4 stitches and 1st ch 2 sp There are only 3 stitches and then the ch 2 sp. Then ch 3. Is the ch 3 in the ch 2 space and then a dc in that space? When I did that then dc in next 3 stitches, there is one stitch left. If I ch 2 then 2 dc in last stitch it just doesn't look right. The chain 2 spaces are no longer in line with the rest of what I've just done.

Hi I have worked the pattern down to where it says:

"Sl st in first four sts and in first ch 2 sp, Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, ch 2) repeat 15 times. Turn."

Where do I find the fixed version of the pattern. I don't see it.

Thank you,

Lorene.
